Q. What was the first product created by Mattify Cosmetics? 

A:  "Mattify Powder" (now known as Mattify Original) was the first product we ever made. This item was sold in small batches on eBay, starting in 2007. It continually sold out so fast, that we decided to expand to other types of transparent powder, and also created eye shadow - which incorporated the oil-control powder as its base.

In the hope of creating a full makeup and skincare line, we started a website in 2009, and gave the company its official name of "Mattify Cosmetics". We've come a long way since then, and hope to never stop in the quest to end oily skin and acne woes!

Q. "What does Mattify mean?"

A:  Mattification is a term used to describe the process of giving skin a shine-free finish - hence the name of our company: "Mattify Cosmetics" - where we specialize in products for oily skin. You've probably seen many brands of foundation, face powder, and and mineral makeup advertise as having a "matte" finish. These types of products will not leave you with a shiny or dewy complexion, but rather, with a clean & fresh shine-free finish.  It's often very difficult to find matte makeup for oily skin that's effective in controlling oil, as many liquid foundations are geared toward either dry or combination skin. With our line of Mattify Transparent Powder for Oily Skin, you can enjoy a matte, shine-free look - even if you prefer liquid foundation. Simply layer the powder under and over your foundation, for an oil-free finish that lasts for hours. 

Q. How is Mattify Cosmetics Different from Other Makeup Companies?

A: Here at Mattify, each of our products contain ingredients that are designed to control oil. While many other companies may have foundations that are oil-free, ours actually absorb oil before it has a chance to surface on your skin. The blend of ingredients used as a base for all of our powder products absorbs oil immediately. Our skincare line features products for oily and acne prone skin that help balance oil production before it becomes a problem.

Q. Do Mattify Products for Oily Skin Contain Fillers? 

A:  No. Fillers are used by some companies to increase product volume, without actually adding any benefit. They are unnecessary and ineffective ingredients that allow the seller to make more product volume (and therefore more of a profit) as the products sell to consumers. All ingredients used in our makeup serves a specific purpose - they are not used to simply fill up space in the container. ​

​Q. Where are Mattify Cosmetics manufactured? 

A:  The Mattify line of products is made in Reno, Nevada (USA). Most of the mineral ingredients have been mined in the United States, with the exception of some Iron Oxides used in the Tinted Powder, Eye Shadows, Bronzer & Body Shimmer. Some of these Iron Oxides were mined in India. The essential oils we use are grown in the USA and are free from chemical and pesticide pollutants. 

​Q. Do Mattify Cosmetics Eye Shadows contain only mica pigments?  

A:  No. Loose powder eye shadow is often referred to as "pigment", implying that the only ingredient is color. While some companies do sell pure mica and label it as "eye shadow", you will find that such formulas do not adhere to the lids - resulting in fading, streaking and smudging.  Mattify's Long Lasting Eye Shadows contain a mineral base powder, which acts as a built-in primer. It absorbs excess oil, allowing our shadows to glide on smoothly and last for hours without creasing - even on oily eye lids.

​Q. Can Mattify Cosmetic's Blush, Bronzer, Highlighter & Eye Shadow be used on dry skin? 

A:  Yes!  Although our primary products are marketed toward those with combination or oily skin, our complimentary products can be used on any skin type.  Mattify's Blush, Bronzer, Highlighter and Eye Shadow are suitable for any skin type. However, Mattify Transparent Powder, Foundation for Oily Skin, Incredi-Gel Moisturizer and Essential Oil Treatments are best suited for combination, oily, and very oily skin types.  

​Q. Does Mattify Cosmetics conduct animal testing? 

A:   No! We are a cruelty-free makeup company and we love our animal friends ~ which means we have never and will never conduct animal testing. Since our products are used on humans, we test on humans (namely, on the employees of Mattify Cosmetics.)  We use 100% natural ingredients, so there is little risk of harmful reactions - unless in the case of specific allergies. ​Q. Does Mattify Cosmetics make vegan products & makeup? 

A:   Yes! 99% of the products manufactured by Mattify Cosmetics are vegan. The only exception is our Manuka Honey Face Mask, which can not be considered Vegan due to the honey content.
