Makeup for Oily Skin: Long Lasting Makeup and Best Waterproof Makeup for Summer

MAKEUP FOR OILY SKIN -
FIND THE BEST MAKEUP FOR OILY SKIN AND WATERPROOF MAKEUP

A list of the best waterproof makeup!  With these products, your summer makeup will survive hours of fun in the sun.

Here is a list of the best waterproof makeup and makeup for oily skin that will allow your summer makeup to survive during sun-scorching weather.

Let’s start with primer.  One of the most important steps before applying makeup is to use a primer as your base.  Notice how celebrities always look like they have flawless skin? Primer plays a big role in this. It helps to absorb skin oils, allowing foundation to bond to your skin for longer wear. When oil seeps out of pores, it disintegrates your makeup, causing it to fade and streak. Using primer helps prevent this makeup melt-down.

Two of the best face primers for oily skin are: 1) Clarins Instant Smooth – At department stores for $28 and 2) Mattify Cosmetic’s Ultra Powder – Retails online for $12 Apply primer a few minutes after your toner and/or moisturizer has dried. Those with exceptionally oily skin will find it helpful to apply the Clarins Instant Smooth, and then the Mattify Ultra Powder. The combination of both will ensure that your makeup lasts for 8+ hours. Both products conceal and protect pores from foundation, while absorbing excess oil & giving you a flawless finish.

Next, you want to apply a waterproof foundation. Recently there have been quite a few companies to release waterproof products such as mascara, eyeliner and lipstick.  The most difficult item to find is waterproof foundation.  A few companies have taken a stab at it, but not quite gotten it right – resulting in runny, sticky foundation.  A large percentage of the drug-store brands have failed, which is unfortunate because customers who need waterproof makeup are forced to spend big bucks on high end brands.

Two of the best waterproof foundations are: 1) Estee Lauder’s Maximum Cover Double Wear Foundation – Retails for about $30.00 at department stores and 2) Colortration’s Liquid Cover – Retails Online for about $39.00.

The Estee Lauder Max Cover Double Wear Foundationis waterproof, light weight and very simple to apply. For the most precise application, use a wedge cosmetic sponge. This foundation is so easily blended, that even when applied with your finger tips, it still looks flawless. Those of you with acne blemishes, large pores, scarring, freckling, and hyper-pigmentation will adore this makeup. It covers any imperfections, and in most cases concealer is not needed.*It is important to not confuse this MAX COVER Double Wear with Estee Lauder’s regular Double Wear foundation. When going to the cosmetic counter, make sure to ask for Max Cover. The ordinary Double Wear is not as long lasting, and is only slightly water resistant. It has a slightly slick feel on the skin, and does not function as well on oily skin as the Max Cover variety.

The Colortration Foundationis a bit more heavy-duty and longer lasting.  This is suggested if you will be swimming all day, or braving very hot humid elements. The only down-side to this makeup is that you must order online, it is not carried in stores, which makes color selection tricky.  The good part is the company offers a trial pack of vials for 17.00 that includes six shades of your choice.  The makeup is so concentrated that these vials alone will probably last you the entire summer, unless you need to waterproof yourself every day. To apply Colortration, you must have a bit of patience, since the color dries so quickly.  Blending is a bit easier when an oil-free, aloe vera moisturizer is applied first, and allowed to dry for a couple of minutes.  Use one pump of Colortration and work a very small amount over the face, one section at a time. You must remember to blend quickly once it comes in contact with your skin!  Blend downwards with fingertips or a cosmetic sponge in short, whispy motions.  It is more cost effective to use your fingers to blend, so you won’t be wasting product when it absorbs into the sponge.  The product will dry to a very matte finish that will not rub off.  Colortration will stay on your skin despite water, oil, sweat & tears for about 10 hours. To remove, use an exfoliating or foaming cleanser and rub in circular motions. Although this item is very pricy, a little goes a long way and the fact that it stays put all day long is priceless!

To put the finishing touches on your foundation, use an oil absorbing setting powder. This will set your foundation, assist in oil control and allow for an air-brushed finish.

Two of the best powders for oily skin are: 1) Mattify Cosmetic’s Ultra Powder and 2) Coty Air-Spun Powder. These are both loose powders that work best when applied with a brush. The Mattify Ultra Powder should be used after foundation/blush/bronzer have been applied to set the makeup. This specific powder is an oily-skinned girl’s best friend, and will soak up oil for hours to prevent it from ruining your look. Re-touches can be done with the Mattify Ultra through the day, and since it is 100% transparent, it doesn’t leave any cakey colored residue – even after multiple touchups.

The Coty Air Spun Powder can be used alone, or after the Mattify Ultra powder. This powder is mostly translucent with a slightly peachy tone, so it’s good for brightening up your overall look.

Now that we’ve looked at foundations, it’s time to discuss other waterproof makeup to complete your look: WaterproofEye Liner, Blush, Mascara & Lipstick.  Those with oily skin should always choose waterproof cosmetics, as they are more resistant to oil than regular makeup. Non-waterproof varieties only last for a couple of hours when they come into contact with skin oil. Luckily, quite a few waterproof eyeliners have hit the market lately.

Two of the best waterproof eye liners are: 1) Mark Cosmetics Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner 2) Styli-Style 24 Hour Liners.   The Mark liner is a liquid that goes on smooth using a very skinny brush which can be used to create a thin line or turned at a 45 degree angle to create a wider line.  This formula stays on all day and doesn’t streak when it comes into contact with water. The same goes for the Styli-Style liquid liner, the best of which is in the form of a felt-tip pen. It is very easy to apply and doesn’t budge until you wash your face.

As far as I am aware, only one water resistant blush exists: Illuminaire Ultimate All Day Blush. It lasts as long as the foundation because it seems to bind with the makeup, especially when set with a face powder such as the Mattify Ultra. Apply a very small amount of this crème blush with your fingertips, on the apples of cheeks, and blend outward towards hairline. The color melts onto your skin, and once it dries, provides a long lasting tint.

Waterproof mascara is the easiest item to find of all the products in this article.  Almost every drugstore and high-end company has come out with a waterproof formula, and most of them are up to the task.

Two of the best waterproof mascaras are: 1) Cover Girl Lash Blast and 2) Maybelline Volum Express. The two fore mentioned waterproof mascaras do not clump, crumble, or smear when exposed to high temperatures or water. When it comes to mascara, it is not necessary to purchase a high-end expensive brand. Almost all waterproof formulas are close to identical, and will provide long & lush lashes. Choosing a waterproof variety will allow lashes to hold their curl all day, and look fresh from morning to night.Steer clear of mascaras marketed as “waterproof tube mascara”.  One of the worst is Clinique Lash Power.  This particular product claims to be water resistant but it flakes off when exposed to high temperatures or when touched, leaving little tubes of crumbled mascara everywhere.

Waterproof Lipstickis another easy find – there are now several on the market that provide all-day waterproof, food-proof wear. If you want to go with a less expensive brand, try Cover Girl Outlast or Maybelline Superstay Lipstick.  These come in a wide variety of colors and stay put for at least 6 hours.  If you prefer a department store brand, go for MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolor. It has a super-glossy, non sticky top coat and stays put for about 8 hours.

After all of your cosmetics have been applied (foundation, blush, powder, eyeliner, lipstick) spray your entire face with a makeup setting spray.  This forms a protective layer over your makeup to further assist in water resistance and oil buildup.

Two of the best makeup setting sprays are 1) Model in a Bottle – Online for $18 and 2) Urban Decay All Nighter – Sephora or Ulta for $18. When misted over your makeup, these essentially “seal” the cosmetics while still allowing your skin to breathe. Either one of these sprays will allow cosmetics to be more water, heat and oil resistant.

At the end of your day or night, it’s important to remove all of this waterproof makeup so it does cause eye irritation and helps prevent clogged pores. One of the best makeup removers for waterproof cosmetics is Cover Girl Clean Makeup Remover, which only costs about $5 at drugstores. There’s no need to spend a lot on fancy makeup remover, this one is a gentle creamy formula that removes even the most stubborn lipsticks, liners and mascaras.

So there you have it, an A-List of the best waterproof makeup and makeup for oily skin. These can all be found either online, at drugstores, on Ebay, or at department stores. Here’s to a beautiful summer, with smudge free makeup!

Some additional tips for long lasting makeup:

DON’T use heavy, thick moisturizer before application.
DON’T rub face with a towel when you’re drying off (blot instead)
DON’T pile on heavy colored powders to absorb moisture – you’ll have a cakey mess!
DON’T apply waterproof lipstick after applying moisturizer or chapstick. The color will not stick. Instead, apply to clean, dry lips.

DO use a very light oil-free moisturizer, or aloe gel, if you feel the need to moisturize.
DO gently blot water or sweat from your face so you don’t disturb or smear your makeup.
DOuse oil blotting papers to absorb excess oil or sweat without disturbing makeup.
DO use a translucent oil absorbing powder (after blotting excess moisture) to re-mattify your face.
DO carry makeup-removing cloths in case you need to remove old foundation & apply new.
DOcarry your foundation with you, in case you’re in need of spot-touchups.

Matte Powder - How to Apply Matte Face Powder for Oily Skin

Matte Powder is perhaps the most important cosmetic for those with oily skin. Combining matte foundation with matte face powder will ensure that your makeup lasts as long as possible, despite your oily skin problem. It’s best to purchase two different types of Matte Powder:  A clear one for use under makeup as a primer and a touch-up powder, and a tinted one for use over foundation as a tone-perfecting setting powder.  If you have oily skin, but do not need to wear foundation, you can wear either form of matte powder alone to simply soak up the oil.

Mattify! Cosmetics - Mattify! Ultra Powder for Oily Skin: This has been reported as the Holy Grail of Oil Absorbent Face Powder.  Even on people with intensely oily skin, this light weight, airy powder soaks up oil for hours.  For instance, if you face gets shiny within half an hour of washing, apply this powder, and you can go about two hours without shine. Get shiny 3 hours after washing your face? Lucky you!  With this powder, shine will stay away for almost 6 hours after this matte powder is applied!  The formula is clear, so it is virtually undetectable and never looks heavy.  This powder can also double as a primer. It protects pores from getting clogged when applied under foundation and even works as an eye shadow primer. If you have oily eye lids, dust some Mattify Powder on before your liner & shadow for long lasting, crease-free results.  Due to its colorless nature, it’s perfect for touch-ups throughout the day over foundation or tinted face powder. Mattify Ultra Face Powder is a higher end brand, with an affordable price tag. Find it at www.mattifycosmetics.com for $14.99 including shipping. They also sell matte powder for sensitive skin, and combination skin.

Drugstore Brand: Maybelline – Dream Matte Powder:
An ultra-blendable pressed powder, which helps hide flaws and evens out skin tone.  This face powder is very light weight, yet highly pigmented – so a little goes a long way. Feels feather light on the skin, and blurs any blemishes or fine lines. Provides moderate oil control, and works for either combination or oily skin. Find this in an array of shades at most drugstores for around $10.00.

Stays color-true (no orange or murky hues) and minimizes pores and fine lines. Also provides moderate oil control, and will work on oily or combination skin. To be honest, it functions almost identically to the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, but costs almost 3 times more at $29.99.

Tips for using Tinted Matte Powder:
You don’t want to use any tinted powder repeatedly for touch-ups, as the colors tend to get a bit muddy when applied frequently.  On oily skin, either of these two tinted powders will work best when applied in this order:  1)  Mattify! Ultra Powder as a primer  2) Your regular foundation  3) Mattify! Ultra as a highly oil absorbent setting powder 4) Maybelline or Estee Lauder Tinted Pressed Powder.  This will help you achieve a flawless, oil-free, pore-free & matte complexion, without a cakey or muddy residue.  If you do touch up with tinted powder, only do so once or twice daily. The rest of the time, use the Mattify! Ultra powder since it is colorless.

Tips for touch-ups on oily skin:
Those with very oily skin will find that their skin gets oily within a few hours, even after powdering. In this case, touchups are needed to keep skin looking fresh, dry and matte.  It is VERY important to use an oil blotting sheet to remove excess oil before re-powdering. This will prevent any cakey heavy feeling after the powder is applied. If you do not have an oil blotting sheet available, use a paper napkin or toilet seat cover to absorb excess sebum.  Gently press (do not rub) the blotting sheet or tissue onto oily sections of the face. The pressing motions will allow the oil to be absorbed, without disturbing your foundation.  If you rub instead of press, your makeup will become smudged and patchy. After much of the surface oil is removed, dust on some clear Mattify! Ultra Powder using a powder brush or powder puff. If using a powder puff, pat the powder onto your face until it becomes transparent. Again, never rub, or your foundation will appear blotchy.  Then, apply a light layer of a tinted matte powder to even out skin tone and allow foundation to look freshly applied. This technique should absorb oil for the next several hours before you need to re-touch again.

If you follow these tips for applying matte powder, you can achieve long lasting makeup without the shine!

Bismuth Free Powder and Mineral Makeup for Oily Skin

picture of natural makeup for oily skin Sometimes, the ingredients NOT present in cosmetics matter just as much as ingredients that ARE included.

At Mattify! Cosmetics, we take pride in the fact that our mattifying face powders do not contain four skin-irritating ingredients present in hundreds of mineral makeup formulas. The offending ingredients are:  Silicone, Bismuth Oxychloride, Pearl Powder, and Mica.  While somewhat useful in enhancing items such as eye shadows, body shimmers, bronzers, blushes, and lipsticks - these items have no business being present in matte face powder. Read on to find out why!

NO SILICONE

Silicone, a popular ingredient in many gel foundation primers, is harmful to acne prone, oily skin.  We do not use any Silicone in our products.  Instead we use silica spheres.  What’s the difference? Silicone is a plastic-like, man made, shiny substance that actually smothers the pores and prevents oxygen from circulating.  Acne bacteria thrives in an environment deprived of oxygen.  Silicone traps sebum and dirt in the pores until you wash your face, which in turn causes acne. Silica Spheres are a naturally occurring component of sand, and are very useful for soaking up skin oil.  Silica Spheres seamlessly glide over the skin, without sinking into the pores to plug them. Skin is free to “breathe” and the bacteria that causes acne is killed when exposed to oxygen.

You may be surprised to find out that Silicone is a commonly found substance in the caulking that surrounds your windows to prevent moisture and cold air from entering your house. Silicone is excellent for forming barriers – which is probably what lead to cosmetic companies think a layer of silicone on your face would prevent your foundation from clogging pores. However, they did not remember that pores must be oxygenated in order to stay healthy and clear. Acne bacteria multiplies when it has no access to oxygen. Silicone blocks your pores and sinks inside them, preventing pore oxygenation and causing acne.

NO BISMUTH

Many people have skin which is intolerant to Bismuth Oxychloride.  Most mineral makeup companies insist on using high concentrations of this ingredient, alienating a large group of customers.  Not only does Bismuth give a greasy sheen to the skin, it can also cause intense itching when it comes into contact with sebum or perspiration.

Bismuth is used in several liquid makeup varieties, but in extremely small amounts.  Most mineral makeup companies use a very high 20%-30% ratio of Bismuth. This is why many people can tolerate the ingredient in their liquid foundation, while they cannot tolerate the higher concentration in mineral makeup.  Makeup Companies defend the inclusion of Bismuth, noting that it blurs fine lines and wrinkles, and adds a “glow” to the skin. While this may be suitable for those with very dry skin, it is less than ideal for those with acne prone, oily skin who go to great length to stop the greasy “glow” caused by sebum.

NO PEARL POWDER

Pearl Powder is another ingredient that should be avoided by those with oily skin. The tiny ground-up pearl particles can get lodged in large pores around the nose and chin, and cause irritation, redness, acne, or even infection.  Aside from the dangers to your pores, Pearl Powder will not do any favors to your complexion either.  The reflective properties of pearl give an all-over shimmer to your face, causing it to look oily immediately after application.  Pearl Powder should only be used in eye shadow and lipstick.  Avoid it at all costs as an ingredient in blush, primer, powder, mineral makeup and foundation if you want your skin to look fresh and matte.

NO MICA

Again, this is an ingredient best left to eye shadow and lip gloss.  It’s the ingredient that gives our sparkling eye shadows, bronzer, and body shimmer their entrancing glow, but we would never even think of putting it in our Mattify! Powder! Several companies, from drug store brands to high-end, use Mica in their face powder and foundation. While Mica rarely does anything to harm the skin, it gleaming shine makes it an undesireable ingredient for powder and foundation.  Those with oily skin are constantly trying to minimize facial shine, and Mica will only cause the face to look oilier.

Mattify! Cosmetics takes its “shine-stopping" formulas very seriously!  Far too many products on the market contain the above ingredients, which create the shine thousands of people are in a constant battle to fight. We will never include these items in our face powders, because we believe everyone should shine with beauty - not with oil!

Rinse thoroughly and then dry vigorously with a fluffy towel.

Proactive Toner is the best toner for oily skin, as it balances the PH level so your skin is not stripped completely of moisture. Toner disinfects pores and then seals them, to help prevent makeup and dirt from clogging inside. Avoid applying any toners which contain alcohol, as it strips skin of all moisture and actually seals pores so tightly that dirt gets trapped inside. (If you normally apply a moisturizer, do so after the toner has dried). Click below to visit Proactiv:

Step 3: Apply Milk of Magnesia to control your oily skin. (Yes, many people will say this is a crazy suggestion, but for people with extraordinarily oily skin it works!) The Magnesium in this product is highly effective at absorbing oil. Dip the top of a cotton ball into Milk of Magnesia, original formula, unflavored. Swipe the cotton ball over your T-Zone (nose, forehead, cheeks & chin) so that just a nearly transparent layer of wetness can be seen. You don’t need to use much. Allow to dry completely for about 3 minutes before  moving to the next step.

Cosmetics is the best primer for oily skin because it absorbs oil, and further prevents any makeup from lodging in pores, which can cause breakouts. Dust it on over your entire face, including eye lids, as it will help act as a primer for crease-free eye shadow. One of the best Mineral brands is L’Oreal Mineral Concealer, and one of the better liquid versions is Cover Girl’s Invisible Concealer. Dot concealer onto dark areas or acne spots and gently blend outwards with concealer brush or finger tip. Avoid any concealers that are oil-based, as these will clog pores.

Dab a bit of foundation on cheeks, chin, and nose, then blend using downward motions. Repeat this process on forehead, but blend upwards toward the hair line. If using mineral foundation, blend into skin using Kabuki Brush in circular motions.

Step 7:  Apply finishing powder for oily skin to set makeup and absorb oil. Using a fluffy powder brush, apply another dusting of the Mattify! Loose Powder for Oily Skin. If you normally use a colored loose setting powder, apply the Mattify! first, then your regular colored powder. The Mattify! Powder will ensure a matte look, and provides 5 times more oil control than regular face powder alone.

Voila! You’ve now created a matte makeup finish! Keep a jar of the Mattify! Powder with you for touch-ups throughout the day to keep skin matte. If your skin starts to get shiny, you can blot it on with a powder puff without disturbing your makeup. Since the product is translucent, it will not look cakey or add unwanted color when applied repeatedly.

Additional Tips for Creating Matte Makeup for Oily Skin
when applying makeup for oily skin

  • If you are leery of applying the Milk of Magnesia to your skin, this step can be skipped. People with exceedingly oily skin will find it to be very helpful in keeping a matte complexion. Unless you have a sensitivity to Magnesium, it should be harmless to your skin and not cause breakouts or clog pores.

  • Be sure to avoid any type of face powder, foundation or blush that contains mica, bismuth, or pearl powder. These are all reflective ingredients that will cause your face to look glittery and shiny, rather than matte. The Mattify! Loose Powder suggested above is 100% Matte, and does not contain any reflective ingredients. Pearlescent ingredients are best suited to eye shadow and lip products, where you actually want a little bit of sparkle.

  • Complete all of the steps above before applying eye liner, mascara & lipstick. Doing so will prevent any oil absorbing powder from sticking to your eyes or lips.

  • A matte complexion doesn’t have to be boring! Spice it up with rust colored lips and shimmery eye shadow (browns, grays and purples will be hot this season).

  • If you would like even more staying power for your makeup, use a makeup setting spray such as Model in a Bottle ([4]) or Skindinavia ([5]). Mist this on after you have applied all of your makeup for a smudge free finish that lasts 8-10 hours.

Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different, so some people may react differently to various ingredients. However, all of the items suggested are oil free and suitable for acne prone, oily skin. If you have sensitive skin it is always best to test for a couple of days on a small inconspicuous area near the hair line, in case you have a reaction.

Now that you have a list of products for oily skin, here are some guidelines and instructions for taking care of and cleansing your face.

Proper Cleansing for Oily Skin: First, those with oily skin need to make sure they using an exfoliating product daily.  One of the most common myths is that you do not need to scrub oily skin – and this myth couldn’t be more wrong.  Those with oily skin produce excess sebum, which in turn clogs the pores and leads to breakouts. Pores must be massaged with a scrub to encourage cell turnover and increase circulation. This will keep pores bacteria free, which means fewer blackheads and breakouts, and less oil production. If you’re looking for a cheap but quality brand that you can use every day, try St Ives Apricot Scrub, which costs around 4.00 at a drug store. This scrub is gentle enough to use both morning and night & is great for removing heavy foundation makeup. If you don’t mind spending a bit more, and want a scrub to deeply exfoliate only a couple times a week, go for either Skin Obsession Microdermabrasion Crystals, costing around 14.00 at www.skinobsession.com or Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Scrub, which costs around 40.00 at Sephora or www.drbrandtskincare.com .  These will leave skin glowing and flush excess debris from pores.  Since these are “heavy duty” scrubs, I advise using them 1x per week on sensitive skin, and 2x per week on average or acne prone skin.

After exfoliating, rinse away the cleansing granules and medicate your open pores with a Salicylic Acid Wash. One of the best foaming washes is called Acne Free 24/7 Foaming Face wash.  You can purchase it at a drug store for about 7.00. Using your bare hands and medium-hot water, rinse away the cleansing granules.  Next, using a body glove to apply the Acne Free Foaming Wash in circular motions all over your face.  Continue for approximately one minute, then rinse all traces of the soap away and dry your face with a fluffy towel. You can find body gloves in the same department as loofahs and eye pillows at your local drugstore or Walmart. They only cost about 3.00 and work wonders for removing facial gunk and stimulating circulation.  The combination of the rough surface of the body glove and the Salicylic Acid in the face wash will remove any remaining debris, dead skin, and blackheads. The Salicylic Acid in this particular formula also keeps working for 24 hours, to deter bacteria from forming in your pores.

Moisturizers for Oily Skin: Contrary to popular belief, oily skin needs moisturizing products to balance itself and slow oil production.  Skin that is stripped of its natural oil from harsh cleansers will often produce even MORE oil to compensate. Don't let that happen to you!

For people with severely oily skin, Proactive Skin Care provides an excellent line of products that are suited toward oily and/or acne prone skin. Their Benzoyl Peroxide based Repairing Lotion is excellent for keeping breakouts at bay while providing just enough light-weight moisture.  They also make a product called Daily Oil Control which balances skin, helps prevent clogged pores, and prevents makeup from streaking.

If you don’t mind spending a bit more, the VERY BEST moisturizer for oily skin I’ve ever found is Dr. Brandt “Pores No More” Pore Effect Refining Cream.  It contains tea tree oil and salicylic acid which keeps pores squeaky clean while providing the perfect amount of moisture for oily skin. It costs around $50 at Sephora, but you can often find cheap sample packs on Ebay if you don’t want to spend that much.

Oil Absorbing Face Powder for Oily Skin:There is one product that people with oily skin should NEVER be without: Mattify Powder for Oily Skin.  This translucent powder is designed especially for oily skin, to soak up oil all day long. Its ingredients absorb the oil to prevent your face from becoming shiny and sticky.  It can be applied both before and after foundation, or alone.  When used as a primer before foundation, it helps the makeup glide over pores for an air-brushed look, and adheres makeup to your face for longer wear. Excessively oily skin may need touch-ups during the day, but   Mattify Loose Powder can be applied several times without any cakey heavy feeling.  It disappears into the skin and silently absorbs oil without disturbing the rest of your makeup.  Another benefit? It cleanses the skin as you wear it! The Kaolin Clay in this item actually absorbs dirt and oil from your pores all day long.  This means that at the end of the day when you wash your face, all of the gunk that would normally fill your pores is whisked away with your face wash. Since this product is completely transparent, it can even be worn by men with oily skin as an invisible barrier to keep oil at bay. Purchase this at www.mattifycosmetics.com
for $8 - $14.

Foundation for Oily Skin: Always select an oil-free foundation that states it is specifically suited to oily skin.  This is one area where you should not hesitate to splurge on a high quality brand.  It is very difficult to find a drug-store brand that is up to the task of absorbing facial oil. As a result, most are sticky or thick formulas that will "melt" off you skin within a matter of hours. If you must choose a drugstore brand, go with L'Oreal Infallible Liquid Foundation.  It stays on for around 6-8 hours and provides a reasonable amount of even coverage. One of the very best high-end brands of makeup for oily skin is Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Camouflage Makeup.  A pea-sized drop is enough for your entire face, and it stays flawless for an amazing 10-12 hours.   This foundation is so light-weight, it feels like you aren't even wearing makeup! The high pigmentation in the formula allows for superior coverage of flaws - most of the time you will not need to wear concealer on freckles, acne spots, or dark circles.  Simply apply with finger tips or a makeup sponge, for a flawlessly matte complexion.  Dusting on some of the Mattify Loose Powder before and after the foundation will give it even longer wear, and provide even more oil control. Purchase this at a department store or at www.esteelauder.com for $28.00.

Eye Makeup for Oily Skin: If you have oily skin, you probably find that your eye shadow & mascara either disappears or becomes very sticky during the day.  Not a good look! Here are some eye makeup suggestions for oily skin:

Mattify Cosmetics also makes a long lasting eye shadow designed especially for those with oily skin. Produced with the same base as their Oil Absorbing Loose Powder, these eye shadows stay put all day long and don’t crease, fade, or change color.  They offer several stunning colors with high pigment and gorgeous sparkle. These are some of the best quality shadows I’ve ever found, and are comparable to MAC eye shadow, but cost a quarter of the price. Mattify Eye Shadows run about 5.00 at www.mattifycosmetics.com and are worth trying in every shade! Oh, and they also transform into liquid liners! I love to use the “Twilight” (black) and “Midnight Train” as liner.  They look truly amazing and stay on all day long.

If you prefer a ready-made liquid liner, try Styli Style 24 hour liner. These are very high pigment, and last even through swimming! Purchase these at most CVS stores for around $8.00.

If you’re going to use mascara, ALWAYS opt for waterproof, and curl your lashes first! Oily skin causes the mascara to dissolve and lashes to droop, leading to the dreaded “raccoon eyes”.

Some of the best waterproof mascaras I’ve found are Cover Girl Lash Blast Waterproof and Maybelline Volum Express Waterproof Mascara, which cost around $7.00 at drug stores. It’s not really necessary to spend big bucks on mascara. These two have out-performed several MAC & Dior mascaras that I have tried. They last longer and hold curl better than the expensive department store brands.

Makeup Setting Spray: As a last step, you should set your makeup for all day water-resistant wear.  Model in a Bottle Makeup Setting Spray - as seen on Oprah and The Tyra Banks Show - helps ALL of your makeup stay in place through the day. After your makeup is in place, simply hold the spray bottle about 8 inches away and spritz the center of your face a couple of times.  This forms an invisible barrier to prevent makeup from sliding off of oily skin.

Touchups with the Mattify Loose Powder can be done over the top of the setting spray throughout the day, without disturbing your makeup. This is a must have if you will be at an event where you might cry, live in a humid climate, or go swimming/exercise frequently but still want to wear makeup.  Purchase this at www.modelinabottle.com for about $18.00.

So, there you have it. A personally compiled list of A+ products for oily skin. If you have any to add to the list, please leave comments!!  I discovered most of these products through trial and error, which gets very costly! Now, it’s my beauty-duty to spread the word to everyone about these awesome products for oily skin.
